Are you in a 'situationship' with social media?

Hey Reader,

For the last year, I've been in what the kids call a 'situationship' with social media.

We're more than friends, but it's not a committed relationship. I ghost Instagram for weeks (or even months) at a time and I'm hit or miss on Threads.

Honestly, I don't even really know why. Sometimes I'm just not feeling it. Other times the vibe isn't working for me.

So when Andréa Jones started talking about rethinking how we approach social media last fall, I was here for it. She got me thinking about WHY I value social media, what I want, and why I'm not ready to quit it. (Hence the situationship!)

In this week's episode of the podcast (and blog), Andréa joins me to share more about her focus on what she's termed mindful marketing, and how it's really about community and connection. We discuss:

  • How her business and viewpoint have been evolving.
  • Moving away from social media tactics to conversations and concepts.
  • What we all need to consider with our social media presence.
  • What's next for her with this evolution?

I encourage you to check out this episode and then share one thing you're going to do with me by hitting reply.

I'll be working on turning my situationship into an actual relationship with some clear boundaries and goals in place this quarter, so stay tuned.

Maggie

Hey Reader, Summer is here, friends! And yes, I'm THAT excited as this past weekend I had my first lake swim of 2024 and got out on the water. If you're new around here, I take my summer very seriously. But it wasn't always this way. In May 2013, a series of events in my personal life (including suddenly losing my childcare) led to me sending an email to my clients that changed everything that summer. The first week of June, I sent an email about my "summer slowdown," outlining exactly what...

Hey Reader, You've probably heard ALL the typical, tired pricing advice by now. You know advice that says you should double your prices, never price by the hour, charge your worth, and so on. In a good economy, it's much easier to raise your prices and charge for your services according to this advice. But in a messy economy like the one we're experiencing now, we can't just price things on a wing and a prayer. We need a strategy, we need to know our hard costs, and we need a baseline hourly...

Hey Reader, I'm back from vacation, and as soon as I logged back in, I was FIRED up, and yes, that means there's a rant incoming. Every single year when May rolls around, I feel this way. It's a month of anniversaries and milestones related to my life and business, so I start taking stock of everything. Add a vacation, and I'm bursting with things to say.Starting with this...WTF are we even doing here in 2024 with this fakery of selling the BS dream of making piles of cash as a business...
